Torre del Oro (Golden Tower)

The Golden Tower which originates from the Moorish period, was erected during the 13th century as a defensive tower making up the Almohadic system of fortification. From here an iron chain could be thrown to another tower, now destroyed, on the other side of the river, to avoid that enemy ships could enter into the habour.

Today the tower houses a small naval museum.
